Drake Performed "Headlines" With Graphics Calling Childish Gambino's "This Is America" Overrated

Earlier this year, Donald Glover revealed the song originally started off as "a joke" and a diss record aimed at Drizzy.

During a performance of "Headlines" at the inaugural show of Drake's It's All a Blur tour, the Canadian superstar was accompanied by headline graphic addressing a recent juicy news item Childish Gambino's "This Is America."

The stage design that accompanied Drizzy's performance of "Headlines" in Chicago featured various headlines, including one that addressed accusations of "nice guy misogyny" in his lyrics. The most eye-catching one, however, read, "The overrated and over awarded hit song 'This Is America' was originally a Drake diss."

While this might seem like a completely unwarranted attack on the 2018 track, which debuted at the No.1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, it appears to be a reference to an admission Donald Glover shared about "This Is America" earlier this year.

“To be completely honest, ‘This is America’—that was all we had was that line. It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it," he told GQ in an interview in April. "But then I was like, this shit sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it.”

The song featured ad-libs from countless rappers, including Drizzy's tourmate 21 Savage. It was met with critical praise upon its release, with specific attention called to the music video directed by Hiro Murai.

Speaking of headlines, the It's All a Blur tour has already got people talking. During a performance of "Look What You've Done," Drake was accompanied by what appeared to be a "hologram" resembling a younger version of himself. Fans have already started to debate the moment and whether it's a lookalike or another tired use of troubling deepfake technology. Other notable aspects of the stage design include floating objects that looked like sperm, which is 100 percent the type of thing Drake would do.
